As the State embarks on becoming a net food exporter by 2030, it is vital that we understand the nature of the market and what are the opportunities that we can grab.
On the 19th October 2019, SDGA in collaboration with the Minisitry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Sarawak (MANRED), organised a symposium called Young Agropreneurs Weekend 2019 at The Auditorium, Old Court House Kuching. The event was attended by more than 100 participants and was officiated by our Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The main objectives of the programme are:-
i) to equip the participants with the knowledge of modern agriculture as well as information on MANRED’s initiatives and policies to encourage young Agropreneurs; and
ii) provide a platform for young Agropreneurs to interact with various stakeholders in the agro industry.
We are very pleased with the outcome of the symposium and we are currently in the midst of planning follow up programmes which will further assist budding young agropreneurs. This is also an effort by the association to address the unemployment issue among young Sarawakians by encouraging entrepreneurship, combining agriculture and usage of new technology.
